Suburban Rail Loop stage one explained

Mick Douge and Lissa van Camp presented to the MTF on Stage one of the Suburban Rail Loop project from Cheltenham to Box – 26 km of twin tunnel with 6 new underground stations.
Mick Douge provided an overview of the Suburban Rail Link project, then further information concerning Stage 1 (26 km section from Cheltenham to Box Hill), explaining the early and initial works. Geotechnical investigations have commenced. Mick noted that the western section of the Link will is the being delivered by a separate group, Rail Projects Victoria. Mick showed the approximate alignment, location of stations, and tunnel depth.
Lissa van Camp explained the Environmental Effects statement process. Lissa noted that Stage 1 will employ a Digital EES, which will be on display later this year. Lissa noted the high importance being placed on improving precincts and urban design. The EES panel inquiry process will commence in late 2021, will be followed by the Ministers Assessment and an outcome will be determined in Q3 2022.
Jess Foulds described the engagement process which due to COVID has largely been conducted on line. Jess noted that SRLA is currently seeking feedback on the station designs.

Transport sector emissions reduction pledge by State Government
The Victorian Government aims to increase the active transport mode share from 18 per cent in 2021 to 25 per cent in 2030.
