26 Melbourne COUNCILS WORKING TOGETHER FOR BETTER TRANSPORT

METROPOLITAN
TRANSPORT FORUM

Advocating for better transport on behalf of over 4 million residents.

OUR TOP PRIORITIES

We all need transport everyday to work, shop or play.
Great cities like Melbourne need equally great transport to function.
As local governments, we advocate for better transport on behalf of our residents.
Our priorities are neatly packaged as our ABCs, namely:

ACTIVE TRANSPORT

Making it easier and more attractive to walk and ride.
Safer cycling.
Safer walking.
Supporting walk or ride to school.

BUSES

As the only public transport available to 70 % of Melbourne, buses need to be more frequent, direct and reliable.

CHOICES

Good transport planning gives the public more choice of transport. Today, too many Melbournians are forced by lack of choice to rely on private cars.

Accessibility

MTF will make any reasonable adjustments required by attendees at public events organised by the forum.
Procedures to request adjustments will be indicated in the booking process.

Our achievements

MTF has been advocating on behalf of over 4 million Melbournians and their local goverments for over 20 years.

As an organisation representing local government, we have brought a local perspective and local knowledge to transport issues for over 20 years.
We have used the skills and expertise of council transport teams to collect data, engage with communities and suggest solutions.
Many of our suggestions have been taken up by government and become policy, including rail extension to Mernda, Rowville and Monash University.
During state election campaigns since 2014, we have raised local transport issues at town hall candidate forums on transport issues, including full house audiences at the Melbourne Town Hall to hear the Transport Minister of the day and other party spokespeople.
