IV SAYS GET ON BOARD
Get on board: Making the most of Melbourne’s buses.
A discussion paper presented by Infrastructure Victoria’s Peter Kartsidimas.
At the April meeting, Peter Kartsidimas, Infrastructure Victoria’ Director Networks & Planning, talked to a discussion paper about ideas for making the most of Melbournes buses.
The IV discussion paper identified four key challenges:
Buses are rarely a competitive travel option with other transport modes
Victorians can get better value for money from the bus network
The existing bus network is contributing to transport inequity, especially for outer and growth areas of Melbourne
Customers find using the bus difficult and complex
Their early finding (as discused in the paper) included:
Reforms to improve patronage
Reforms to improve the customer experience
Reforms to improve coverage
Reforms to improve financial competitiveness
Of large Australian cities, Melbourne buses have the lowest levels of [public] approval.
