Victorian freight planning and policy initiatives update

Freight Victoria’s presentation on the fascinating topic of freight planning was the highlight of the December MTF meeting.
Delivered by Andrew Newman, Director Strategy and Policy, and Lauren Pollock, A/Manager Supply Chain Performance, the presentation covered a range of topics including Container Chain Logistics Study, Voluntary Port Performance Model, First and Last Mile: Industry and Local Government engagement sessions, Port Rail Shuttle Network and Western Interstate Freight Terminal.
The presentation also included a few surprises, including the fact that the number of containers moving from the port by rail is zero (they are lifted to trucks first), the dominant role of Melbourne in rail freight to Perth and other data gems.
