Victoria Walks: Understanding Pedestrian Crashes
Victoria Walks’ Duane Burtt presented the latest results of Monash University’s Accident Research Centre research into pedestrian crashes to the MTF November meeting.
It’s a comprehensive and wide-ranging exploration of the data collect by authorities about incidents involving pedestrians, including type of crash, the vehicles involved and time of crash.
In Victoria the default urban speed limit was reduced from 60 km/h to 50 km/h in 2001. It has been estimated that fatal and serious injury crashes involving pedestrians were reduced by 25 to 40 percent as a result.
